Albert Park is parkland racing in the heart of Melbourne: the lake, the trees and the city skyline behind the grandstands. It is fast, it is close to the walls, and it comes early in the season, so the paddock arrives full of optimism and new cars. The circuit is a tram ride from the laneways. Melbourne treats the race the way it treats all sport, as the only thing worth talking about that week.
