The weekend
Spa-Francorchamps is the circuit the drivers would keep if they could keep only one. Seven kilometres through the Ardennes forest, with Eau Rouge and Raidillon taken flat out uphill, Pouhon’s long double left and the Bus Stop at the end of a lap that changes with the weather by the minute. It can rain on one side of the circuit and not the other. Nobody has ever found it dull.
Off track it is a festival: campsites in the forest, the biggest post-race concert of the year and a town, Spa itself, that has been a spa since the Romans. We take a different approach to the crowds, with hotels in the town and in the hills, hospitality above Eau Rouge, and transfers that get you in and out while everyone else is still queuing. An Elite host is with you throughout.
What it’s actually like
The cars drop into Eau Rouge, the engine note climbs with the hill, and they are gone over the crest before you’ve drawn breath. Spa is the lap every driver dreams about, and you’re standing on it.
