The weekend

The greatest spectacle in racing

The Indianapolis 500 is the biggest single-day sporting event on earth: more than a quarter of a million people around a two-and-a-half mile oval, two hundred laps at well over 220 miles an hour, and a tradition that runs from the balloons and the anthem to the winner’s bottle of milk. It has been run since 1911 and it still stops America for an afternoon in May. Nothing in motorsport is bigger.

Our weekend starts with British Airways to the States and a hotel in the heart of downtown Indianapolis. Race day comes with a guaranteed seat in the paddock section, pre-race access to the pit lane and the Saturday morning drivers’ meeting, and the transfers that get you through the biggest crowd in sport. An Elite host is with you throughout, from the airport to the chequered flag. It is the easiest way to do the hardest ticket in America.

What it’s actually like

Three hundred thousand people stand for the anthem, the balloons go up, and thirty-three cars take the green flag at the speed of a landing aircraft. The Indy 500 isn’t a race you watch. It’s one you survive, grinning.
