The weekend

The Temple of Speed, and the Tifosi

Monza is the fastest lap of the year and the oldest circuit on the calendar, laid out in a royal park outside Milan in 1922. The cars run flat out for most of the lap, slowed only by the chicanes and the long, loaded sweep of the Parabolica, and the old banking still curves through the trees beside the track. When a Ferrari leads, the noise from the grandstands is like nothing else in sport.

Milan is twenty minutes away and worth every one of them: the Duomo, the Galleria, Leonardo’s Last Supper, a night at La Scala and some of the best food and shopping in Europe. We stay in the city, run transfers to the park and back, and put you in the grandstands or in hospitality on the pit straight, with an Elite host beside you from Friday practice to the podium invasion.

What it’s actually like

The flag drops, the Tifosi rise in a wall of red, and twenty cars hit the first chicane at the speed of a landing jet. Then the crowd pours onto the track beneath the podium. Monza doesn’t do calm. Neither will you.
