The weekend

Racing under the lights at Lusail

Lusail was built for racing at night. The whole circuit is floodlit, the long main straight runs past a modern pit complex, and sixteen corners of fast, flowing tarmac reward a car that is good through the medium-speed stuff. The desert air is cool once the sun goes down, and the atmosphere is unlike anywhere else: a Grand Prix lit like a stage, with the city skyline glowing on the horizon.

Doha is twenty minutes away and worth the trip on its own: the Museum of Islamic Art, Souq Waqif’s spice and falcon markets, a dhow on the Corniche at sunset and dune drives into the desert beyond. We book the hotels on the waterfront, seats or hospitality at the circuit and the transfers between them, and an Elite host is with you throughout. What it’s actually like
